MCP Tools

What it's for

MCP Tools lets you connect outside tool servers to your workspace. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for a service to offer a set of tools, such as "look up a contact" or "create a ticket." When you add an MCP server here, Voicent finds the tools it offers. You can then use those tools in your workflows with the MCP Tool node. No coding is needed.

On the page itself, the heading reads MCP Servers.

Add an MCP server

Before you start, get the server's web address from the provider. If the server needs a password-style key, get its bearer token too.

  1. Click Add Server.
  2. Enter a Display name, such as "CRM Tools".
  3. Enter the Server URL, such as https://mcp.example.com/mcp.
  4. Under Authentication, choose None or Bearer token.
  5. If you chose Bearer token, paste the token. Click the eye icon to check what you pasted. The token is stored encrypted.
  6. Click Connect.

When it works, you see Connected — N tool(s) discovered. The server appears in your list.

Note

The server must support the Streamable HTTP connection type. Servers that only use stdio or SSE are not supported yet. The page says so under the Server URL field.

Check a server's tools

  1. Click the arrow at the left of a server's row.
  2. A table lists each Tool, its Description, and when it was last Refreshed.

Each row also shows the server's status badge (Connected or Error), its tool count, its address, and when it was last synced.

The stat cards at the top show your total Servers, how many are Connected, how many have Errored, and the total Tools discovered.

Test or refresh a server

  • Click Test to check the connection. You see Connection OK with the number of tools, or a Test failed message.
  • Click Refresh to fetch the latest list of tools. Do this after the provider adds or changes tools.

Use a tool in a workflow

  1. Go to Workflows and open a Post-Call workflow.
  2. On the Nodes tab, drag MCP Tool from the Node Palette onto the canvas.
  3. Click the node. Choose the MCP Server and the Tool, then fill in the tool's inputs.
  4. Click Save.

Note

The MCP Tool node is only available in Post-Call workflows. It doesn't appear in the palette for Real-Time workflows.

Remove a server

  1. Click the trash icon on the server's row.
  2. Read the warning and click Remove.

Warning

Workflows that use tools from a removed server will fail on their next run until you reconnect it. The saved tool list is deleted.

Troubleshooting

  • "Tool discovery failed" when adding: The server was saved, but Voicent couldn't read its tools. Check the URL and token, then click Refresh on its row.
  • Error badge with a message under the address: The last connection attempt failed. Fix the cause, then click Test or Refresh.
  • "No tools cached. Click Refresh.": The tool list is empty. Click Refresh.
  • "Select a workspace to manage MCP servers.": Choose a workspace first.
