VoicePay

What it's for

VoicePay lets callers pay by card during a live call with your voice agent. The caller types their card number on the phone keypad. The card details go straight to your own payment gateway and never reach Voicent AI. Each workspace is one merchant, with its own gateway and its own phone number. The VoicePay page is where you check setup progress, run checks, choose the agent that answers, and see completed payments.

Who can use it

VoicePay is a paid add-on. The VoicePay item appears in the sidebar only after the add-on is bought and its subscription is active. There is no switch to turn it on.

To buy it:

  1. Go to Settings and open the Billing tab.
  2. Under Add-ons, find VoicePay. The card shows the monthly price, any setup fee, and the fee per completed payment.
  3. Click Add VoicePay and finish checkout. If the card says Contact sales, reach out to your Voicent contact for pricing.

Once active, the card shows active and a Manage button. If you open the VoicePay page before the add-on is active, you'll see VoicePay is not enabled for this account and a Go to Billing button.

Note

Some VoicePay setup steps are done by Voicent staff, such as installing your payment connector and buying your number. Your Voicent contact will tell you when these are done.

Read the status strip

The top card shows four facts:

Item Meaning
Reseller subaccount The phone account your payments run through, whether it is live or sandbox, and its PCI Mode status.
Merchant Your payment connector, its mode, and whether it charges a set amount or is tokenize only (saves the card without charging).
Retell key Whether your voice account connection has been checked.
Proven by a real payment Whether a real test payment has completed. Nothing else can set this.

Follow the setup checklist

The Setup checklist lists nine steps, from creating the account to placing a test call. Each step shows who does it, where, and a status badge:

Badge Meaning
Verified Checked automatically by preflight.
Recorded A person said it was done. Shows who and when. Not checked by the system.
Proven A real payment completed. This is the only "ready" state.
Outstanding Not done yet.
Failed A check found a problem.
Not verifiable The system can't check this step.
Blocked Waiting on an earlier step.

Verify your voice account and choose the answering agent

In the VoicePay — Retell key panel:

  1. Click Verify against Retell. This makes a real check, not a lookup of an old result.
  2. When it passes, the panel shows verified and the time.
  3. Under Answering agent, pick the agent that should answer this merchant's calls. Only agents in this workspace are listed.
  4. Click Save.

Warning

If no agent is chosen, VoicePay refuses calls on this merchant's lines. It does not fall back to another agent.

Run preflight

Preflight runs read-only checks on your setup. It doesn't buy or charge anything, so it's safe to run any time.

  1. In the Preflight panel, choose sandbox or live.
  2. Click Run preflight.
  3. Review each check's Status (PASS, FAIL, MANUAL, or SKIP) and its detail. Failed checks often include a suggested fix.
  4. Open History to compare past runs.

A green preflight means your settings look right. It does not prove payments work. Only a real test call does.

Place a test call

  1. In the Numbers panel, find your merchant's number. Click the copy icon to copy it.
  2. Call that exact number from a phone and complete a payment.
  3. Click Refresh at the top of the page. Proven by a real payment should now show Proven.

Check payment connectors

In Pay Connectors, click Read from Twilio to list the connectors on your account. The panel warns you if your connector is missing or if its mode (test or live) doesn't match your merchant.

View transactions and attestations

  • Transactions lists completed payments: time, Amount (or vault only), what the connector and gateway reported, the last four card digits, a reference, and when it was Billed. Every completed payment is billable, whether the gateway approved it or not.
  • Attestations lists things a person confirmed by hand, such as PCI Mode, with who confirmed it and when.

Note

Card payment rules, including PCI requirements and any rules for collecting debts, depend on your business. Confirm your obligations with your own counsel.

Troubleshooting

  • No number for this merchant: There's nothing to dial yet. Ask your Voicent contact to set up the number.
  • "Needs a reseller subaccount first": Preflight and connector checks wait until your account is created.
  • Your VoicePay number isn't on the Phone Numbers page: That's expected. VoicePay numbers are kept separate.
